For those who are travelling

This has to be my favorite thing about the garments: an entire wardrobe that fits in your handbag! Say goodbye to bag check!

For the Environment: Smarter is the New Black

A big part of TML's agenda was to use the same universal design strategies that are being used in the building and construction industries to serve the needs of many while reducing negative environmental impact.

1,2) The garments are trans-seasonal, which allows them to season-hop quite efficiently.

3) All TML patterns are zero waste, so nothing but the selvage goes into the trash. The leftover fabric is planned for in advance, and are made into other garments (0.02% waste coefficient)

4) The fabrics are luxurious, size friendly and body positive, allowing for the various cyclical fluctuations that occur in a woman's body throughout her lifetime, including pregnancy, weight loss, and weight gain.

More effort is being made to establish a national design policy to address pre and post consumer waste, as well as the waste generated by production, which is very exciting. Most of the challenges we're currently facing are a result of inefficient resource deployment, and design strategies that have not been framed comprehensively, to reflect what's happening right now, with the environment, and the frequent fluctuations that occur in a woman's body over time.

How to Wear a Kimono Dragon by Martina Sencakova

Martina did a quick How to Wear video for the Kimono Dragon over jeans. I really liked the deliberate gestures she uses. Being the professional doer that she is, Martina really thought out the timing (probably imagining voice over or something). I can easily design short sentences around her timing, but I have no experience with dubbing.

I'm up next - stay tuned!

Kimono Dragon - Tween Style

Photos taken December 2007. Stripes and the strings are fun. Callie (age 13 at the time) did some amazing stuff with the sleeves and the strings, and the stripes did their own number.

Nicole knows me so well

I had to run in and give Nicole a big squeeze! Marquina was asking her how she knew what to do with the Dragon, and Nicole responded "I just know Trudy!"

I've known Nicole for over twenty years, and she has participated in many of my adventures. It's always nice to have an old friend along for the ride.

Kimono Dragon - wool studies - ribbed

Photos taken October or November 2007. I also found some ribbed merino wool that was very soft and warm, so I decided to see if it was Dragon-friendly.

Kimono Dragon - wool studies - smooth

The first fabric I used to make the Dragon was this really great brownish black wool jersey fabric. I had played around with the garment myself, but I wanted to see how others responded to it, so I hired two models and called three friends to come in for a test drive.
